Many times people will ask me why I chose to specialize in working with  young adults and issues relating to new mothers. Much of my early experience as a therapist has come from working with adolescents and teens in intensive programs which specialize in teen and family issues. I spent many hours speaking to teens in groups, intensive outpatient centers and residential treatment centers, learning about common issues that kids were facing. I know how these issues can negatively impact adolescents lives when left untreated. I have developed an interest and passion in assisting adolescents and families in managing these unique issues related to friendships, social media, bullying, school stress, social anxiety and more. I believe that involving the family, and at times the school systems, in treatment can create a large positive influence in helping the child receive the best support in all areas of their life. I have helped individuals in many different stages of their lives, from middle school through college and their first careers. I can assist with managing symptoms of stress, anger or sadness, developing coping skills and insights, identifying and resolving past traumas, and developing a better understanding of emotions.

I also recently became a mother and became especially interested in mental health issues related to women and first time mothers. I have perused additional coursework and trainings in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International. I am working towards certification in Perinatal Mental Health.

Areas of Specialty

I have successfully assisted individuals in the areas of anxiety, anger management, depression, trauma, substance use, and more. Although I do also provide therapy services to adults, I especially enjoy and have additional experience working with adolescents and young adults ages 15 years and up. I have collaborative relationships with many of the schools  and guidance systems in the areas of Monroe, Shelton, Trumbull and Newtown. I can assist during educational PPT meetings and development of 504 and IEP plans which allow qualified children to receive assistance in school. These can include emotional and educational supports. You can learn more about these plans here.

My Approach

I believe in practicing active listening and creating a comfortable environment where you can feel supported and heard. In addition to listening well, I also provide feedback and specific coping skills to give you the tools necessary to create change in your life.  I use an eclectic approach with a focus on cognitive behavioral therapy. Although symptoms present differently for everyone, I believe in utilizing a client centered approach which focuses on creating a cohesive and safe therapeutic relationship for change to occur.
